    My Mission

Life can sometimes be overwhelming and have unexpected twists or turns. This can often lead to feeling overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, depressed or just unhappy. Counseling can help us navigate through these difficult issues. Amos has counseled in settings such as clinics, residential treatment centers, and private practice. Amos has extensive experience working with children and adolescents in the areas of severe trauma, violence prevention, healthy sexuality, behavioral issues, PTSD, and other significant issues. Amos provides a friendly and relaxed style of interaction, and he often uses techniques such as solution focused therapy or humanistic approaches to help you live a more happy and healthy life.

Amos graduated from Texas Tech University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He then went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Tyler with his Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Amos is now a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor as well as a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment provider.

    My Values

    Confidentiality

Confidentiality is an essential part of any clinical relationship. All parts of your participation in clinical services at Piney Woods Counseling, including the scheduling of appointments, content of counseling sessions, and any records that are kept, are confidential as outlined by the law and ethics boards. Confidentiality and it's limits will be discussed in the initial paperwork.

    Creativity

There is no uniform way to address issues in therapy. I attempt to tailor therapy for each person to find the best way to work. Therapy is is dynamic and ever evolving.

    Compassion

Compassion is part of our everyday experience of being human. Compassion has something to do with what it means to lead a good life. It gives us the ability to understand someone else's situation and the desire to take action to improve their lives. It is the quality that allows us to step outside of ourselves and see the circumstances of others.

    Acceptance

Through acceptance, we learn to open up and make room for painful feelings, sensations and emotions. We learn to drop the struggle we have with them, give them room to breathe and allow them to be as they are, instead of fighting and denying them – basically, we learn to let them be and grow from them. This allows our inner thoughts, feelings and urges to come and go, without the struggle.
